TOLEDO, Ohio — United Way of Greater Toledo is calling on community members to roll up their sleeves and support the educators who shape the future of our region during Helping Our Heroes 2026, the organization’s annual Campaign Kickoff event.

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, volunteers from businesses, civic organizations, and across the community will join together at Birmingham ElementaryEscuela SMART Academy, and Robinson Elementary to help teachers prepare their classrooms for the first day of school.

Teachers invest countless hours beyond the school day creating welcoming learning environments, organizing classrooms, and preparing lessons—often purchasing supplies with their own money. Helping Our Heroes gives the community an opportunity to lighten that load and show educators how deeply they are appreciated before students return.

Volunteer opportunities begin at 9:00 a.m. at all three schools. Projects are available for both individuals and groups, making it an ideal team-building opportunity for businesses, families, and community organizations.

To register as a volunteer, visit unitedwaytoledo.org/kickoff.
