The Free Tax Preparation program is now scheduling appointments to prepare taxes for the 2015 filing season. If you are an individual or family making $53,000 or less per year, dial 2-1-1 today to schedule your appointment.
The IRS estimates the average taxpayer spends $200 on tax preparation services each year. In an effort to help people save more of what they earn, we have been helping low-to-moderate income families in our community by preparing their state and federal returns for free through the Free Tax Preparation Program. This past filing year (2014 FY) 84 volunteers assisted 3,483 individuals and families, saving an average of $670,000 in tax preparation fees alone. The program as a whole brought back over $4.5 million to Lucas, Wood, and Ottawa county residents between January 2014 - April 2014.
Education sessions are now available throughout Lucas County. These sessions are free and open to everyone. During these sessions, tax payers will learn the basics of tax preparation. In addition, an IRS certified volunteer will be available to answer any questions and assist with tax preparation. Click here for more information.

Volunteering and Internships
Become a volunteer tax preparer helping low-to-moderate income individuals and families stand on their own and bring more money back to our local economy. Without your help, this program would not be possible. This year we are looking to recruit 50 new volunteers in Lucas, Wood, and Ottawa counties. Click here to see what our volunteers have to say about the program.
We are continuously recruiting volunteers for the program. Volunteers will become IRS certified volunteer tax preparers, free of charge. Find more information about volunteering and internships here.
