Toledo, OH — United Way of Greater Toledo is proud to announce the fourth annual United for the Holidays initiative — a region-wide effort to bring nourishment, comfort, and hope to families across Northwest Ohio this holiday season.
For many of our neighbors, putting food on the table has become harder than ever. Food remains one of the most common unmet needs across our region, and as recent changes to SNAP benefits coincide with the federal government shutdown, families already stretched thin are facing even greater challenges. This year, a warm holiday meal will mean more than just food — it will mean stability, dignity, and the reassurance that their community cares.
“United for the Holidays is more than a food distribution — it’s a message of hope,” said United Way leadership. “Together with our partners, sponsors, and volunteers, we ensure families feel seen, supported, and valued during a season that can be especially difficult for those living paycheck to paycheck.”
Community Generosity in Action
This effort is made possible thanks to the generosity of our sponsors — Stellantis, FedEx, Sheetz, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Eastman & Smith, Juliet Solar, UToledo Health, SSOE, Columbia Gas, and the Stu & JoJo Goldberg Donor Advised Fund — whose compassion and partnership bring this initiative to life.
We are deeply grateful to our community partners — Grace Community Center, Islamic Food Bank, Brown Bag Food Project (Bowling Green), BCS Food Pantry (Oak Harbor), Greater Grace Food Pantry, Nationwide Children’s Hospital – Toledo, and 211 — for leading the charge in outreach and distribution. Their dedication ensures food and care reach those who need it most.
Meeting the Needs of Working Families
United Way’s mission centers on supporting ALICE households — Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed — families who work hard, often at multiple jobs, but still struggle to make ends meet. Across Lucas, Ottawa, and Wood Counties, 40% of households live at or below the ALICE threshold, where a single unexpected expense or a holiday meal can mean real financial stress.
Through United for the Holidays, United Way and its partners are providing Holiday Meal Boxes, Weekender Food Bags, College Care Packages, and food vouchers — small acts of care that make a big difference. Every box packed and delivered carries the spirit of compassion and the promise that no one in our community is forgotten.
