Volunteer

Did you know? More than 70% of Toledo students are unprepared for Kindergarten and 54,000 students in Lucas County are eligible for free or reduced lunch.

At United Way, we depend on passionate, caring volunteers to come together and help solve big community issues like this.

Join us in changing the odds for local students by donating school supplies, ensuring that they can start the school year ready to succeed. Fill backpacks with more than just school supplies. Fill them with hope.

Since 2001, groups of passionate, dedicated volunteers have joined forces to form volunteer networks, raise money, and create impact in targeted segments of our community. Today, nearly 800 volunteers partner with United Way to positively influence the direction of our collective work with a focus on a specific segment of our population. Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) is a hands-on poverty simulation that allows participants to role play through various scenarios based on real-life examples. By encountering barriers and being forced to make tough decisions, participants gain a greater awareness of the daily realities for many low to moderate income families in our community. The simulation lasts approximately two hours and can be provided to groups with up to 120 people. Intrested in learning more about COPE? Click here to view our one pager!

Would you like the Cost of Poverty Experience to come to your company or agency? Take a minute to fill out our request form! To view Cost of Poverty Experience MOU, click here.
