We have a new program!
For the past few months, Women’s Initiative has been busy developing a new creative writing program. We are excited to share our program updates!

WordShop: Build your creative writing skills

Our new creative writing program will feature three components:

  1. Creative writing field trips that offer students the opportunity to create books/journals/magazines together as a class.
  2. In-class support for writing projects.
  3. Themed workshops that take place on weekends or over the summer.

WordShop will be ready for classrooms beginning fall 2012.
Let us know if you’d like to get involved.

Social and Emotional Learning
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a program that began as a collaboration between Women’s Initiative, Toledo Public Schools, and Toledo Federation of Teachers. The program aims to promote a caring learning environment and build students’ social and emotional competencies, reduce risky behavior, and increase academic success. SEL began several years ago as part of Women’s Initiative, and continues today as part of United Way’s education work. It has grown to six schools, and 115 Toledo Public School Teachers have been trained through the program. Check out the video above to learn more about this successful program!
