Volunteer to Help Families Become Financially Stable

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

Become a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteer today! The VITA Tax Credit Program is seeking volunteers to help prepare taxes for the upcoming 2012 tax season. Come join us, get FREE IRS Tax Training and Certification, and help serve the community at locations in Lucas County. You can help bring millions of dollars to the local economy by volunteering just a few hours of your time.

 As a volunteer tax preparer, you will:

  • Learn valuable résumé-building skills
  • Receive free training and certification
  • Have flexibility based on your schedule
  • Serve your community and give back
  • Prepare taxes and answer questions pertaining to tax-related issues for taxpayers who qualify for the VITA program

Tax preparation sites are open January to April.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Basic Computer Skills. Must feel very comfortable working on the computer.
  • Basic Internet Experience.
  • Accounting or Financial background preferred, but not necessary.
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Able to comfortably communicate with people you do not know.
  • Comfortable with people of diverse backgrounds and economic conditions.
  • Complete FREE IRS Basic Tax Preparation and Training (Note: This will be offered through United Way or online.)
  • Pass the IRS Basic Certification Test.
  • All interns and volunteers are required to complete a security and (soft hit) credit check (at no cost to the intern/volunteer).
