On Saturday, July 21, approximately 200 people attended a Community Gathering at Scott High School. This public event was developed as a collaboration between United Way of Greater Toledo, Glass City All-Stars, GI Vipers, Frederick Douglass Community Association, The Village 50, Velocity Heights, and Toledo Public Schools.
By gathering together the community leaders, organizations, and residents of the Central City, the event focused on exploring positive solutions to community issues. United Way was able to report back to the community about the information gathered from numerous community conversations conducted over the past year in the neighborhoods in the Scott High School feeder pattern.
The findings from these conversations was summarized in six major themes, which can be viewed here. The event also presented an opportunity for community groups, as well as individuals, to describe the programs they have implemented and encourage others to get involved. These grassroots efforts spanned from youth groups offering activities like basketball and video games to agencies offering nutrition classes for parents.
