Additional Emergency Food and Shelter Funding Available
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provided an additional $21,317 to Ottawa County to meet the needs of the newly unemployed. Applications were due Thursday May, 14, 2009, and are now closed. The local Ottawa County Board responsible for distribution of funds met on May 22, 2009, at the Sutton Center. Stay tuned for announcement of the distribution.
This funding is in addition to the $44,937.00 distributed earlier this year:

Conestoga Project Continues
The Conestoga Project is a grass roots neighborhood revitalization effort. The project targets the neighborhood between Maple and Lincoln streets. Charity Navigator, the largest and most utilized national charity evaluator, has awarded United Way of Greater Toledo a 4-star rating for the second consecutive year, recognizing the organization as outperforming the majority of nonprofits in America in respect to fiscal responsibility. The Sutton Center
Ottawa County residents benefit from the United Way office in Port Clinton and the volunteers and staff who change lives. United Way in Ottawa County is housed in the Sutton Center, which serves the community as a Family Resource Center. There are currently 12 agencies or programs located in the Sutton Center.

United Way in Ottawa County is focused on creating lasting impact through case management. Case management helps vulnerable families and adults in our community become self sufficient. Because of the investments made in this area, more than 160 families received case management at the Sutton Center.
